Do you find yourself meticulously counting calories, obsessing over your step count, and belittling yourself in the mirror every chance you get? It’s exhausting, isn’t it?
Unfortunately, these thoughts and behaviors are common - many people struggle in relationship with food and their bodies. We live in a diet-centric world that makes it hard to prioritize our true wellness - which includes mental health.
We are a group of passionate eating disorder therapists who are not only formally trained in how to support you through recovery, but we personally know how incredibly tough the healing battle can be.
Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is an eating disorder characterized by uncontrolled episodes of overeating or eating to the point of physical discomfort. These episodes are often done in secret and occur over a short period of time. Oftentimes, due to the guilt of said binge episode, individuals will restrict their intake post binge, which eventually creates a vicious binge-restrict cycle.
Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder characterized by a significantly low body weight and/or malnourishment, an immense fear of weight gain, and a distorted perception of overall body size and shape. Individuals struggling with AN typically engage in highly restrictive behaviors around food and may or may not engage in excessive exercise.
Bulimia Nervosa (BN) is an eating disorder characterized by uncontrolled episodes of binge eating, followed by compensatory behaviors in order to prevent weight gain such as self-induced purging, diuretic use, laxative use, or excessive exercise.
Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is an Eating Disorder characterized by a nutritional deficiency as a result of an inadequate food intake. This results in inadequate weight gain in children or weight loss in adults. People with ARFID tend to be hesitant to try new foods and have an aversion to taste/smell/texture.
Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED) is characterized by a significant distress due to symptoms that are similar to disorders such as AN, BN, and BED, but do not meet full criteria for the diagnosis.
