Eating Disorder Nutritionist in Houston

It’s time to calm the food chaos once and for all.

Through compassionate, non-judgmental nutrition counseling, we’ll help you rebuild a relationship with food that feels sustainable, peaceful, and entirely yours.

Get started

Recovering from an eating disorder isn’t as simple as going to therapy and sticking to a meal plan.

Therapy is where you process the deeper "why:” the root causes, the patterns, the emotional nuances underneath the behaviors.

But nutrition counseling is where you actually rebuild your relationship with food in real life.

It's the practical, day-to-day work of learning to nourish your body without guilt or disordered behaviors – and it’s a critical piece of the puzzle that therapy alone can’t address.

Whether you’re struggling with disordered eating patterns or simply want to develop a healthier relationship with food, we’re here to help you respect your body’s needs and your personal journey.

Our Nutrition Philosophy

Non-Diet

We reject the harmful culture of restrictive dieting, focusing instead on nourishment and well-being. Our approach encourages you to trust your body’s signals and find joy in eating, free from the constraints of diet rules.

Weight-inclusive

We honor bodies of all shapes and sizes, promoting health at every size. Our nutrition counseling focuses on your overall health and well-being, not on achieving a specific weight or body type.

holistic

Beyond just food, we consider the full picture of your well-being, including your mental health, stress levels, and lifestyle. Our goal is to help you feel better mentally and physically, through a combination of nutrition counseling and supportive therapy.

At Grow With Gabi Counseling, we believe…

Food is:

✔ Culture

A way of connecting to where you come from, the people you love, and the moments worth remembering

✔ Celebration

Birthday cake is supposed to be enjoyed, not calculated

✔ Nourishment

For your body and your mind, in equal measure

✔ Just food

Not a moral decision, not a test of your willpower, not something you should have to think this hard about

Food is not:

✖️ your worth

What you eat, how much you eat, and what your body looks like say nothing about who you are

✖️ The enemy

Even when it feels that way

✖️ earned

You don't have to work out to "deserve" a meal, and you never did

There's no prize for following rules, and eating "badly" isn't something that requires penance

✖️ reward or punishment

“What if the food stuff feels like too much right now?”

Our approach lets you take the lead, offering support the entire way.

Eating disorders, no matter the symptoms, are physically depleting. Malnourishment affects your concentration, your mood, your energy — and yes, your ability to do the deeper work in therapy.

The food stuff isn't just about food; it's about giving your brain and body the foundation they need to actually heal.

While it can be hard work, it’s incredibly worthwhile work – and we’re never going to throw you in the deep end. We'll meet you exactly where you are, build trust first, and take it from there.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an eating disorder dietitian actually do? +

A lot of people assume a dietitian is just going to hand them a meal plan and send them on their way. At Grow With Gabi Counseling, it's nothing like that. Our dietitian works with you to understand your relationship with food, identify patterns that aren't serving you, and help you rebuild trust with eating in a way that actually feels sustainable.

Do I need a referral from my therapist to start nutrition counseling? +

Nope — you can reach out to us directly for nutrition counseling without seeing one of our therapists first. That said, if you're working with a Grow With Gabi Counseling therapist, your care will be coordinated automatically. And if you have a therapist outside of our practice, we're happy to loop them in too.

Will I be put on a meal plan? +

It depends on where you are in your recovery and what you need. For some people, having structure around meals is genuinely helpful — especially early on when decision fatigue around food is high. For others, meal plans feel like just another set of rules. Our approach is tailored to you and what you need.

Do you take insurance for nutrition counseling? +

No — We are out-of-network providers but are more than happy to provide you with monthly superbills and offer a limited number of sliding scale spots.

I'm not "underweight." Do I still need nutrition counseling? +

Absolutely. Eating disorders and disordered eating affect people of every body size, and you don't have to look a certain way to deserve support. If your relationship with food is causing you distress — regardless of what that looks like on the outside — nutrition counseling is for you.

How long will I need nutrition counseling? +

Like therapy, there's no universal timeline — and anyone who tells you otherwise is oversimplifying it. Recovery is nonlinear, and the goal isn't to check a box, it's to reach a place where food genuinely feels easier. We'll reassess regularly together and adjust as you grow.

Where will sessions be held? Are there virtual options? +

All nutrition sessions are virtual. Virtual sessions are available for residents of California, Colorado, Virginia and Texas.

You deserve a life that isn’t centered on food & body anxiety.

If you’re constantly worried about food, exercise, or how your body looks or feels – you’re in the right place. Our eating disorder nutritionist in Houston is here to provide compassionate, weight-inclusive nutrition counseling to help you uncomplicate eating and care for your here-and-now body.
